GRReat Dog Rescue
Who Are We?
GRReat Dog Rescue (GDR) consists of a group of volunteers that love dogs (and other animals too) and want to help the adoptable pets that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Some of the volunteers have been involved in rescue since the 1980's and still enjoy helping these wonderful dogs. These little guys turn up constantly in shelters, as owner turn-ins (mostly because someone is moving) or found in the streets where someone has left them.
All GDR dogs are evaluated for overall temperment, for suitability around other dogs, cats and children. They are health-checked, up-to-date on all shots and spayed or neutered. The dogs are kept in foster homes until they find their very own forever homes and are treated like family. We try to know as much as we can about each dog so we can make the best match possible between dog & family.
GDR volunteers are located in various parts of eastern U.S. As such, we all attempt to help dogs in our areas and would like to help other groups as much as we are able, believing that reciprocating is one of the ways we can all help each other end the massacre of wonderful pets.
Adopting a Friend
The process of adopting a pet is simple: complete an application; once approved as a home (reference checks, discussion & a home visit) we will find a dog or puppy for you from among the group we are currently fostering. Or, if you have another type of dog in mind, we will watch out for that dog and call you when he/she becomes available. We can usually find a requested breed within a short while and/or will refer you to one of the many breed rescues that exist.
Our adoption fee is usually $100 (reduced from $175) and covers all of the medical fees for each dog, including spay/neuters, all shots (including the distemper combo shot, kennel cough, rabies), worming, heartworm test if old enough, heartworm treatment if needed, micro-chipping, etc. Each dog's needs are different, some of our senior dogs require more care (such as teeth care) and others require less. We keep our adoption fee constant such that if we make money on a dog, that money will help with the expenses for another dog.
Come Visit Us!
GRReat Dog Rescue maintains a fulltime website, featuring all of our available pets. Please be aware that we are constantly working to place our pets and by the time we've approved your application, some of the website pets may be adopted. Please call to arrange a visit with a dog or come to one of our adoptathons and complete an application - we look forward to helping you to become part of the growing community of families that have given their hearts & homes to a rescued pet.
Donations/Sponsorships
Our foster homes take care of feeding their foster dogs and GRReat Dog Rescue takes care of the medical expenses. We rely on our adoption fees, donations and sponsorships to help us with medical expenses ... our adoption fees remain the same regardless of what a dog needs, but we adjust the fees for individuals on fixed income, provided they qualify to adopt one of our dogs.
Donations can be sent to the address below or if you prefer to use a credit/debit card, log on to www.Paypal.com and use the email address of GRReatDogs@gmail.com. Thank you for your help!
